Interesting research. It quantifies some major changes in marketing during the last year. More specifically, three areas:

1. Shift to online marketing. Brand building and elevation, lead generation, customer communications are being done very effectively and much more economically than before, utilizing social media, blogs, and communities.

2. Change in Marketing organizations. Content strategy is becoming one of the key elements in new marketing teams. "Marketing journalists" that create credible and interesting content, (written, audio and video), are becoming essential.

3. Marketing automation. Using automation brings huge efficiency in managing a large number of campaigns, as well as accurately measuring ROI, adjusting campaigns and bringing more qualified leads to sales. However, marketing automation tools can introduce a huge disruption to marketing organizations, requiring process and potentially organizational changes.

Along with constant market and business-related changes, CMOs have to deal with huge changes in the way marketing is done. Successful CMOs embrace these changes, helping to significantly improve many corporate metrics, including revenue, profitability, and customer satisfaction.
