I take issue, however, with the blanket assumption that Baby Boomers "do not incorporate interactive tools into their lives to the same extent as Gen X, Y or Z’ers, so it’s impossible for them to fully appreciate all of the implications that result from digital trends." First, I am a Boomer and am very active in social media (visit me on Facebook, Twitter, Digg, LinkedIn, Foursquare and WordPress). Second, a good leader, regardless of age, is visionary and a strategic thinker who understands the objectives of her organization at a high-level. Then, in areas where she needs the support of niche experts, she hires talented pros to round out her team. Third, a Gen Y or Z'er will play a role in supporting the overall digital initiative, but is not likely to have the breadth or depth of leadership experience needed to sit at the executive table.
