Plant Tour

In addition to expert presentation and panels, top-notch networking, roundtable discussions and confidential peer conversations, Summit attendees will be treated to an exclusive “insiders only” tour of Ford’s transformed Michigan Assembly plant – the world’s only plant to build gasoline powered, electric, hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles all on the same production line.

Located a short bus ride away in the City of Wayne, the Michigan Assembly Plant was named 2012 Assembly Plant of the Year by Assembly Magazine, marking the first time an automaker, as well as a plant in Michigan, has earned the honor.  Key to the plant’s efficiency is a flexible body-shop operation which uses reprogrammable tooling, standardized equipment in the paint shop and common-build sequence in final assembly.  The plant is designed to be efficient, with synchronous material flow, and ergonomically friendly, with a skillet conveyor system designed to promote ease of movement for employees. The Michigan Assembly Plant features a 3-mile long assembly line with 908 robots, encompasses 5 million square feet and employs 5,170 workers.  Following its $550 million transformation, the Michigan Assembly Plant now produces the Focus, Focus Electric, Focus ST, C-MAX Hybrid and C-MAX Energi plug-in hybrid.

As a Smart Manufacturing Summit attendee, you will experience first-hand how Ford has again reinvented the modern factory, and how you can leverage new technologies, processes and employee partnerships to improve quality, efficiency and flexibility in your company to innovate and beat the competition.
