Maine

Small State, Big Fiscal Wins

Maine is making news for its fiscal responsibility, with Fitch Ratings upgrading its bond credit to the second-highest rating of AA+ in 2025 due to its strong budgetary controls and discipline and low long-term liability burden. The Maine Budget Stabilization Fund has now reached a record $1 billion, enabling the state to secure its long-term financial position and flexibly invest in new projects. Amazon, New Balance and Mölnlycke have announced projects in the past year, while the life sciences sector continues to grow with more than 10,000 jobs and over $2.3 billion in economic activity.

“I am proud our new Dirigo Business Incentive Program will help Mölnlycke’s make its biggest investment yet in Maine, to meet rising global demand... Today’s expansion... demonstrates that Maine is a tremendous place for doing business.”
