South Dakota

Expanding Beyond the Prairie

While South Dakota still relies on agriculture and dairy as its primary industries, it’s continually breaking ground in new sectors. Sioux Falls has claimed a top spot in several national livability rankings and is a growing magnet for families and new talent. Cybersecurity has also emerged as a growing opportunity for the state with targeted initiatives to educate and train residents and support new career opportunities. Dakota State University in Madison earned a spot as a national leader in cybersecurity education and research. The $90 million DSU Applied Research Lab is on track to open in 2026, creating hundreds of jobs.

“South Dakota is proving that the careers of the future can be had right here in our home state. These career opportunities will be a vital part of keeping our state and nation strong, safe and free. Under the Noem-Rhoden Administration, we declared cybersecurity South Dakota’s Next Big Industry, and the results back that up.”
