Recently, the two CEOs of RIM stepped down and handed the top spot over to former COO Thorsten Heins. Just because the company is moving from two CEOs down to one, it doesn’t mean that a CEO partnership can’t work. The fact that Jim Balsillie and Mike Lazaridis are stepping down, doesn’t mean that two chief executives don’t work. After all, the did spend 20 years working side by side.

Forty-four U.S. companies in the Russell 3000 already have co-CEOs, and 48 companies outside of the U.S. have moved to the co-CEO model, according to a GMI study.
