Manufacturing Lags All Other Industries in Startup Activity, and Other Stats

Conversely, the most manufacturers had the fewest employees. Fully 107,256 companies had 0-4 employees. As the number of employees went gradually up, the number of companies went gradually down.

 

The average wage for production workers was highest in Wyoming at $32. 29 per hour, as well as in border states such as Washington, Texas, Arizona, Maine and Michigan. The lowest was Alaska at $17.14. Other low-production-wage states were scattered throughout the south, including Florida, Arkansas, Mississippi, Georgia and North Carolina, as well as midwestern states North Dakota, South Dakota and Nebraska.
