California, Texas, New York and Florida were the top four states by GDP produced for the third quarter of 2015, according to seasonally adjusted figures at annual rates, provided by the federal government. Fourth-quarter numbers for last year will be available in June.
But here were the top performers for GDP percentage growth by states during the third quarter: No. 1 South Dakota, No. 2 Kansas, No. 2 Iowa, No 4. Nebraska, No. 5 Idaho, No. 6 Hawaii. No. 7 Indiana, No. 8 Montana, No. 9 Wisconsin, No. 10 Utah. From that list, only Indiana and Wisconsin typically make it into the upper half of absolute GDP rankings quarterly.
Here are the 10 states with the highest GDP for the third quarter of 2015, seasonally adjusted at annual rates, and their rank in the 2016 Chief Executive Magazine “Best States / Worst States for Business”:
Overall, U.S. real GDP by state growth slowed to an annual rate of 1.9 percent in the third quarter of 2015 after increasing by 3.8 percent in the second quarter. It was yet another indication of the up-and-down pattern of the American economy in the fifth year after the official end of the Great Recession.
