Between the UK’s Brexit vote, the upcoming U.S. presidential election, ongoing terrorism attacks and other global issues, it appears that CEOs are voicing more skepticism about future business conditions today than they had in previous months.
CEO confidence started off the year on a high note. But due to a combination of economic, regulatory and other woes, confidence at the seven-month mark has weakened slightly.
The CEO Confidence Index, Chief Executive‘s monthly gauge of CEOs’ expectations for business conditions over the next 12 months, grew 3% in July, landing at 6.16 out of a possible 10.
January 2017 marked the third straight month that CEO confidence rose after a year of record lows.

The CEO Confidence Index, Chief Executive‘s monthly gauge of CEOs’ expectations for business conditions over the next 12 months, stayed relatively unchanged in January, rising just 0.3% to 6.14 out of a possible 10.
The CEO Confidence Index continues to rise, landing at 5.78 out of 10. The Index hasn’t been this high since May of 2011, and some CEOs indicate that business conditions are better than the media lets on.
Almost all the CEOs we surveyed in May say they will work in at least partially hybrid mode for the rest of the year—versus just 7 percent who said they’d be fully remote.
